The role of pre-screening in this decision
This article assumes you have already run an AI pre-screen or manual inspection. The tier decision only matters for cards worth submitting. If your card has bad centering or visible surface damage, the tier choice is irrelevant because you should not submit it at any price.

Standard saves $20 per card versus Priority. At your submission volume, what does that add up to?

If $200 matters to your budget and you can wait 20 extra business days, Standard is the obvious choice.
2. Consider your timeline
Do you have a hard deadline? A show where you want to sell slabs, a buyer who wants to see the grade, a personal goal for a set registry?
Priority (70-80 BD) versus Standard (90-100 BD) is roughly a month difference at the high end. If that month matters, pay the $20.
3. Factor in queue risk
PSA states Standard orders will be processed after existing Value and Bulk orders at lower price points. If there is pent-up demand for Standard now that it has launched, early Standard submissions may face longer effective turnaround than published.
Priority has been running longer. Its queue position is more predictable. If certainty matters, Priority may be worth the premium.
4. Check the max insured value
Standard caps at $1,000 max insured value. Priority is $1,500. If your card is worth more than $1,000 raw, you need Priority or higher to get adequate coverage.
Most modern cards fall under $1,000 raw. Vintage or high-end rookies may not.
