In short
On October 2, 2026, Beckett said it “detected suspicious technical activity and, out of caution, took our platforms offline.” It says a forensic investigation has found no evidence that sensitive customer information was impacted and that grade records are intact. Services will return in three phases with no dates. Until Phase 1, BGS certs still cannot be checked online.
What Beckett said
In a statement dated October 2, 2026 on its Tech Updates page, Beckett said: “During planned updates to modernize our legacy IT systems, we detected suspicious technical activity and, out of caution, took our platforms offline.”
Beckett attributed the long outage to “the time needed to conduct a thorough forensic investigation, including engaging leading security experts to help us understand what happened and strengthen our platforms.” It added: “That investigation has not identified any evidence that sensitive customer information was impacted.”
Cardboard Journal reports that Beckett’s sites and app went offline on the evening of September 9 and that Beckett had described the outage as infrastructure work until this statement, also posted on Facebook. That makes it 23 days from shutdown to this explanation.
What Beckett says is safe
- Cards in custody: “All cards currently in our custody remain secure and protected within our facility.”
- Grades and pop data: “Core certification, grade records, and historical population databases remain intact and uncompromised.”
- Accounts: “We have no evidence of impact to sensitive customer information.” Beckett also says its “team maintains full access to our systems and data.”
The restoration plan
Beckett says services will return “over the coming weeks” in three phases, “prioritized by customer need.” It gave no dates for any phase.
| Phase | Services, in Beckett’s words |
|---|---|
| Phase 1 | Customer Accounts, Online Submission Center, Certificate Look-up and Pop Reports |
| Phase 2 | Online Price Guide, Marketplace, and Dealer Admin portals |
| Phase 3 | Beckett Authentication Services, Mobile App Updates |

What to do now
- Follow Beckett’s own security advice. It recommends “using strong, unique passwords; enabling two-factor authentication where available; and monitoring account activity regularly.” If you reused your Beckett password elsewhere, change it there.
- Rule: until Phase 1 is live, you cannot check a BGS cert online. Buy BGS slabs from sellers you trust or wait; our BGS cert and label guide covers what to inspect in hand.
- Plan submissions around what is open. Cardboard Journal reports Beckett’s holding page still offers a $79.95 Express submission. Our outage checklist and September 15 guide cover options while the site is down.
- Price Guide subscribers: Cardboard Journal reports Beckett extended subscriptions by 60 days.
What we could not confirm
- What Beckett means by “sensitive customer information,” and whether names, addresses or passwords were reachable. The statement does not say.
- When any restoration phase will go live.
- What the “suspicious technical activity” was. Beckett has not described it.
