PSA backlog falls to 8.2 million
PSA’s October 6, 2026 Backlog Tracker print puts the active grading backlog at 8.2 million units, down from about 9 million on September 22. Value tiers stay paused. Here is what that means for collectors deciding whether to wait or submit an open tier.

In short
PSA reports 8.2 million units in the active grading backlog as of October 6, 2026 — down from ~9 million on September 22. Six global hubs are running. PSA says sustained progress could let them assess reopening additional service tiers in the coming months. That is not a Value reopen date. Value and Value Bulk remain paused; Standard at $59.99 is still the cheapest open tier (verified October 16, 2026).
What PSA printed on October 6
On October 16, 2026 we re-checked PSA’s Backlog Tracker. The October 6, 2026 update states: active grading backlog is now 8.2 million units, down from 9 million reported September 22; six global hubs continue high output; and sustained progress at this rate puts PSA “on path to assess reopening additional service tiers in the coming months.”
Earlier CardGrade coverage tracked the September 22 ~9 million print in our 2026 card grading backlog overview and PSA Value tiers pause explainer. This post is the dated October 6 update — not a replacement for those pieces.
Backlog prints on the tracker
Confirmed prints from the live tracker page (checked October 16, 2026 ET):
| Tracker date | Active backlog | Change vs prior print |
|---|---|---|
| July 28, 2026 | 12.4 million | Up from 11M (July 14) |
| August 11, 2026 | 11.85 million | Down from 12.4M |
| August 25, 2026 | ~10.9 million | Down |
| September 8, 2026 | 9.9 million | Down from 10.9M |
| September 22, 2026 | ~9 million | Down from 9.9M |
| October 6, 2026 | 8.2 million | Down from ~9M |
From the July 28 peak of 12.4 million to the October 6 print of 8.2 million, the tracker shows a net reduction of about 4.2 million units across those prints. The latest step — ~9M to 8.2M — is an ~800,000-unit drop in two weeks.

Gap to PSA’s ~5 million milestone
PSA’s June 2, 2026 tracker entry said the temporary Value pause is tied to operational milestones, and projected roughly 5–6 months to reach a target of bringing the backlog down to about 5 million units. That is PSA’s stated milestone language — not a CardGrade prediction of when Value returns.
At 8.2 million on October 6, about 3.2 million units still sit above that ~5 million figure (8.2 − 5 = 3.2). Clearance rates change; treat the gap as context for reading the tracker, not a countdown clock.
Open tiers re-checked October 16, 2026
We re-verified PSA’s trading card grading services page the morning of October 16, 2026 (ET):
| Tier | Price | Max insured | Est. turnaround |
|---|---|---|---|
| Value / Value Bulk | Currently unavailable (paused) | ||
| Standard | $59.99 | $1,000 | 90–100 business days* |
| Priority | $79.99 | $1,500 | 70–80 business days* |
| Express | $199 | $2,500 | 20–30 business days* |
| Super Express | $349 | $5,000 | 10–15 business days* |
| Premier | $599 | $10,000 | 7–10 business days* |
*PSA states estimated turnaround times are estimates only and not guaranteed; the clock starts when the order is entered into the grading system.

Decision rules for collectors
- Do not treat “coming months” as a Value reopen date. PSA said it may assess additional tiers — not that Value is scheduled to return on a calendar day.
- Standard is still the cheapest open door. At $59.99 it undercuts Priority by $20 per card, with a longer published window (90–100 vs 70–80 business days). See our Standard live / wait-or-submit guide and Standard vs Priority after pre-screen.
- Pre-screen before you pay $59.99+. Weak candidates waste open-tier fees whether Value is paused or not. A photo-based pre-screen helps you filter before you ship.
- Re-read the tracker yourself before you pack a box. Numbers move biweekly; this article is a snapshot of the October 6 print plus an October 16 tier check.
Bottom line
The backlog is moving the right way on PSA’s own tracker — 8.2M as of October 6, not 9M — but Value is still closed and the ~5M milestone is still roughly 3.2M away. If you need a slab on a timeline, price the open tiers you can actually order. If you can wait, keep watching the tracker and do not invent a reopen date from “coming months” language.

Frequently asked questions
What is the PSA grading backlog as of October 6, 2026?
PSA’s Backlog Tracker October 6, 2026 update says the active grading backlog is 8.2 million units, down from 9 million reported September 22.
Are PSA Value tiers open again?
No. As of October 16, 2026, PSA’s trading card grading services page still shows Value and Value Bulk as currently unavailable. The October 6 tracker language about assessing additional tiers in the coming months is not a Value reopen announcement.
What is the cheapest PSA tier open right now?
Standard at $59.99 per card (max insured value $1,000, estimated 90–100 business days) is the cheapest open trading-card grading tier on PSA’s services page as of October 16, 2026. Priority is $79.99.
How far is the backlog from PSA’s stated ~5 million backlog target?
PSA’s June 2, 2026 tracker entry tied the temporary Value pause to operational milestones, and stated a backlog target of about 5 million units. At 8.2 million on October 6, that is about 3.2 million units still above PSA’s stated ~5 million backlog target. PSA has not announced Value reopen.
Does “coming months” mean Value will reopen soon?
No. PSA said sustained progress at the current rate “puts us on path to assess reopening additional service tiers in the coming months.” Assessing reopen is not the same as announcing a date or confirming Value returns.
Should I wait for Value or submit Standard?
That depends on your timeline and fee budget. Value remains paused with no reopen date. Standard is live at $59.99 with a long estimated turnaround. Pre-screen cards before paying any open-tier fee so weak candidates do not eat $59.99+ each. CardGrade’s photo-based pre-screen is not an official grade, authentication or appraisal, and CardGrade is not affiliated with PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC or TAG.
