PSA 10 is the highest grade a card can receive. The card must be virtually perfect in every way, with four sharp corners, clean edges, a flawless surface, and original gloss. Only about 2-5% of submitted cards achieve a PSA 10, making it the most sought-after grade in the hobby.
What PSA looks for when assigning a grade of 10 (Gem Mint).
55/45 or better on front, 75/25 or better on back
Perfectly sharp with no wear or fraying visible under magnification
Clean and free of any chipping, whitening, or roughness
No print defects, scratches, staining, or loss of original gloss
PSA 10 commands the highest premium of any grade, often 2-10x or more than a PSA 9 of the same card. For modern cards, PSA 10 is the standard collectors chase. For vintage cards, a PSA 10 can be worth 50-100x+ over raw due to extreme rarity in high grade.
A PSA 10 is not literally perfect under a microscope. Minor manufacturing tolerances are allowed as long as the card appears flawless to the naked eye.
Centering does not need to be 50/50. PSA allows up to 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the back for a Gem Mint grade.
Resubmitting a PSA 9 does not guarantee a PSA 10. The same card can grade differently on separate submissions due to grader subjectivity within PSA tolerances.
PSA 10 Gem Mint means the card is in virtually perfect condition. It has four sharp corners, no visible wear on edges, a clean surface free of scratches or print defects, and centering within 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the back. It is the highest grade PSA awards.
Roughly 2-5% of all cards submitted to PSA receive a 10. The rate varies by era: modern cards printed with higher quality control may see 10-20% PSA 10 rates, while vintage cards from the 1990s and earlier may see less than 1%.
Generally yes. A PSA 10 typically sells for a premium over a BGS 9.5 of the same card, partly due to PSA brand recognition and the lower population of PSA 10s. However, a BGS Pristine 10 (Black Label) usually commands a higher premium than a PSA 10.
Yes, frequently. Many pack-fresh cards have minor centering issues, factory surface imperfections, or slight corner touches from packaging. Pre-screening with AI helps identify which pack-fresh cards have the best chance at a PSA 10.
