Beckett offers four pricing tiers based on turnaround speed. All tiers include the same detailed subgrade analysis.
Best for bulk submissions where turnaround time is not a priority. Ideal for lower-value cards you want authenticated and graded.
A balanced option for collectors who want a reasonable turnaround without paying premium rates. Good for mid-value cards.
For cards you need graded faster. Works well for cards you plan to sell soon or want back before an upcoming show or auction.
The fastest BGS option for high-value cards. Get your grades back in days, not months. Best for time-sensitive submissions.
Prices are approximate and may vary based on declared card value, promotions, and submission volume.
BGS is the only major grading company that provides four individual subgrades on every card, giving collectors detailed insight into card condition.
BGS measures centering as a ratio on both the front and back of the card. A perfectly centered card has a 50/50 ratio left-to-right and top-to-bottom. Centering is one of the most common reasons cards lose points.
Evaluates the sharpness of all four corners under magnification. Even minor rounding, fraying, or dings that are invisible to the naked eye can reduce the corner subgrade.
Examines all four edges for whitening, chipping, or roughness. Edge wear is especially visible on dark-bordered cards and is a frequent issue with cards that have been shuffled or handled.
Checks for scratches, print defects, staining, and overall print quality. Surface issues include factory defects like print lines or ink spots as well as handling damage like fingerprints or light scratches.
The final BGS grade is calculated from the four subgrades but is not a simple average. BGS uses a weighted formula that can round up or down. A card with subgrades of 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, and 9.0 may still receive a 9.5 overall, but a card with 9.5, 9.5, 9.0, and 9.0 will typically receive a 9.0 overall.
Quad 9.5 (all four subgrades at 9.5 or higher) is especially sought after because it indicates consistent quality across all categories. Similarly, a Black Label (all four subgrades at 10) is the rarest and most valuable BGS designation, often commanding higher prices than a PSA 10 for the same card.
Both are industry-leading grading services, but they serve different collector needs.

BGS grading starts at approximately $20 per card for Economy service with 120+ business day turnaround. Standard service costs around $40 per card (50+ days), Express is approximately $100 per card (10+ days), and Premium is around $250 per card (2+ days). Prices may vary based on declared value and current promotions.
BGS provides four subgrades on every graded card: Centering, Corners, Edges, and Surface. Each subgrade is scored on a 10-point scale with half-point increments. These subgrades give collectors detailed insight into exactly where a card excels or falls short, and specific subgrade combinations can significantly affect resale value.
A BGS Black Label is awarded when a card receives a perfect 10 in all four subgrades (Centering, Corners, Edges, and Surface), resulting in a Pristine 10 overall grade. Black Labels are extremely rare and often command higher premiums than even PSA 10 grades for the same card.
A Quad 9.5 means a card received 9.5 in all four subgrades, resulting in a BGS 9.5 Gem Mint overall grade. Quad 9.5s are considered highly desirable because all subgrades are equally strong. A 9.5 with uneven subgrades (e.g., one 9.0) is generally worth less than a true Quad 9.5.
BGS turnaround times range from 2+ business days for Premium service to 120+ business days for Economy service. Actual turnaround times can fluctuate based on submission volume. During peak periods, turnaround times may extend beyond the stated estimates.
It depends on your goals. BGS is ideal if you value detailed subgrades and want to know exactly how your card performs in each category. PSA generally commands higher resale premiums for most sports cards. BGS Black Labels can exceed PSA 10 values for certain cards. Pre-screening with CardGrade.io can help you predict your subgrade scores before you decide.
