TAG Grading Brings Back the $29.95 Value Tier: What Collectors Should Know
TAG reopened its Value Tier at $29.95 per card with a 10-card minimum and an estimated 90 business days. What it costs, what you give up, and how it compares.
TAG's Value Tier Is Back
TAG Grading has reopened its Value Tier at $29.95 per card, its lowest grading price. TAG announced the return in an email to customers on October 21, 2026, and the tier is listed on TAG's pricing page the same day.
The headline terms, as TAG lists them:
- $29.95 per card, grade only
- 10-card minimum per service
- Estimated 90 business days turnaround
- Up to $250 protection per card
- TAG Grade and DIG Report included
TAG says capacity for the Value Tier is limited and that the tier may pause again if demand outpaces capacity. Its pricing page carries a similar note: "Availability may be limited as we're monitoring volume closely to keep turnaround times reliable."
This follows TAG's September 30 reopening of its five other tiers after a backlog pause that began in May. With Value back, all six TAG grading levels are open again.
The Full TAG Price Ladder (October 21, 2026)
Here is every TAG grading level as listed on TAG's pricing page on October 21, 2026. Turnarounds are TAG's estimates in business days from intake. TAG says they are not guaranteed.
| Tier | Price per card | Minimum | Est. turnaround | Protection per card | What's added |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Value | $29.95 | 10 cards | 90 business days | Up to $250 | TAG Grade + DIG Report |
| Base | $39.95 | 5 cards | 60 business days | Up to $500 | TAG Grade + DIG Report |
| Standard | $59.95 | None listed | 45 business days | Up to $1,000 | Adds 1000-point Score, Card Rank, premium slab imaging |
| Priority | $79.95 | None listed | 30 business days | Up to $1,500 | Adds 360° slab video |
| Express | $149.95 | None listed | 10 business days | Up to $2,500 | Same features as Priority |
| Premier | $299.95 | None listed | 3-5 business days | Up to $5,000 ($10,000 available) | TAG says it includes a DIG+ report |
TAG also says it does not charge more based on a card's value. Your grading price stays the same whatever the card is worth, and the protection amount is up to you.
What 10 Cards Cost at Each Low Tier
The 10-card minimum is the first thing to plan around. At $29.95 a card, the smallest Value order is $299.50 in grading fees, before return shipping.
| 10 cards at... | Grading fees | Per-card protection | Est. turnaround |
|---|---|---|---|
| Value ($29.95) | $299.50 | $250 | 90 business days |
| Base ($39.95) | $399.50 | $500 | 60 business days |
| Standard ($59.95) | $599.50 | $1,000 | 45 business days |
So moving 10 cards from Base down to Value saves $100. In return you wait about 30 more business days, and each card's protection drops from $500 to $250. Return shipping is extra at every tier. TAG calculates it at checkout.
When Value, Base or Standard Makes Sense
Value fits a batch of cards worth under $250 each
The Value Tier works best when you have at least 10 cards you want in TAG slabs, each worth well under $250 even in a high grade, and you are not in a hurry. Think set builds, personal collection cards, or modern cards where the slab matters more to you than the resale. The $250 protection cap is the number to respect: if a card could be worth more than that after grading, Value is the wrong tier for it.
Base fits smaller orders or cards worth up to $500
Base has half the minimum (5 cards), double the protection ($500) and a shorter estimated wait (60 business days) for $10 more per card. If you only have five or six cards, or a few of them could top $250, Base is the simpler choice.
Standard fits cards where the Score matters
Standard is the first tier with TAG's 1000-point Score and Card Rank, plus premium slab imaging. If you plan to sell and want the Score on the listing, or a card could be worth up to $1,000, the extra $20 per card over Base buys you those features and double the protection again.
A practical way to split an order: put the cards that are clearly low value in a Value batch, and move anything that could land a high grade on a valuable card up to Base or Standard.
How TAG's Value Tier Compares to PSA, CGC and SGC
We checked each grader's official pricing page on October 21, 2026. Each grader names its per-card cap differently: PSA's is a Max Insured Value, SGC's is a maximum declared value, CGC's is a maximum value per card, and TAG's is protection. They are close in purpose but not the same terms, so read each company's policy before relying on it.
| Grader and tier | Price per card | Minimum | Per-card cap | Est. turnaround |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TAG Value | $29.95 | 10 cards | $250 protection | 90 business days |
| TAG Base | $39.95 | 5 cards | $500 protection | 60 business days |
| CGC Bulk | $17 | 25 cards | $500 max value | 150 working days |
| CGC Economy | $20 | None listed | $1,000 max value | 90 working days |
| SGC Standard | $50 | None listed | $1,500 max declared value | 40+ business days |
| PSA Value / Value Bulk | Paused | — | $500 Max Insured Value | Temporarily paused |
| PSA Standard | $59.99 | None listed | $1,000 Max Insured Value | 90-100 business days |
A few things stand out:
- CGC is still the lowest price for collectors happy with a CGC slab. Its Economy tier is $20 with no minimum listed, and Bulk is $17 at 25 cards.
- PSA's Value tiers remain paused, which makes PSA Standard at $59.99 its lowest open tier. See our October 6 PSA backlog update for context.
- SGC's lowest rate is $50, after its September price change.
- TAG Value has the lowest per-card cap in this table at $250. That is the trade-off for the price.
We left Beckett (BGS) out of this table because we could not load Beckett's official pricing page to confirm today's prices. For the last prices we confirmed, see our September 15 Beckett update.
TAG Says Its Backlog Is Nearly Cleared
In the same email, TAG says its backlog recovery is about 99% complete. TAG says submissions peaked at 420% of its monthly capacity during the backlog, and that all service levels are now running on their published turnaround estimates. TAG publishes a backlog tracker on its site.
Those are TAG's figures, and TAG's own terms say turnarounds are estimates, not guarantees. The Value Tier's 90-day estimate is also the longest on TAG's menu, so plan around it rather than hoping for better.
Before You Submit
TAG's pricing page lists a few rules worth checking before you build a Value batch:
- One card category per service. TAG says mixed-category submissions may be split into separate orders, which can mean delays and added shipping charges.
- Some cards are not accepted right now, including Yu-Gi-Oh!, pre-1989 cards, memorabilia and cards thicker than 50pt stock. See TAG's currently grading page for the full list.
- Return packages need a signature, and each card is covered on the way back up to its service's protection, according to TAG.
The TAG Submission Kit
TAG says its Submission Kit add-on costs $49.95 and includes prepaid shipping to TAG and $1,000 of inbound coverage, plus packing supplies. For a single 10-card Value batch, the kit adds about $5 per card. Compare it with what you would pay to ship and insure the package yourself.
The Collectr x TAG giveaway
TAG's email also mentions a Collectr x TAG giveaway for a TAG 10 Mega Gengar EX. TAG says the giveaway ends October 21 and the winner will be announced October 22.
Pick the Right Cards Before You Fill a Value Batch
The Value Tier rewards knowing your cards before they ship. You need 10 cards that suit a $250 cap and a 90-day wait, and you want to move anything with real upside to a tier with more protection. A CardGrade pre-screen looks at photos of a raw card and gives notes on visible centering, corners, edges and surface, which helps you sort a stack into "Value batch" and "send higher" before you pay. It is a photo-based pre-screen, not an official grade, authentication or appraisal, and CardGrade is not affiliated with TAG, PSA, BGS, CGC or SGC. For more on TAG itself, see our TAG grading guide.
Summary
- TAG Value is back at $29.95 per card, 10-card minimum, an estimated 90 business days and up to $250 protection.
- The smallest Value order is $299.50 in grading fees, plus return shipping.
- Value saves $10 a card versus Base, but halves the protection and adds about 30 business days.
- TAG says capacity is limited and the tier may pause again if demand outpaces it.
- CGC Economy ($20) and Bulk ($17) are still cheaper; PSA's Value tiers are still paused; SGC starts at $50.
- TAG says its backlog recovery is about 99% complete, with all levels on published turnaround estimates.
- Sort your cards first so only the right ones go in a Value batch.
